QBurst’s presentation at the conference explained how we integrated NLP (natural language processing) and MongoDB to recreate the common search application. The team presented a technical solution that could identify key components and operators within a natural language query to retrieve records from MongoDB.

MongoDB World 2015 provided a platform for developers and business leaders to interact and share insights on MongoDB. The conference also introduced delegates to the latest features of MongoDB 3.2.

QBurst Provides Business Owners with “Mobile Web Strategy 101” Education

QBurst Business Development Director Praveen Raj and Digital Marketing Services Director Mayra Ruiz-McPherson led a “Mobile Web Strategy 101 for Business Owners, Startups & Entrepreneurs” workshop on July 16, 2015 in Fairfax, Virginia.

Main-Img

“Over the past 10 years, we’ve helped business owners launch more than mobile apps as part of their digital strategies,” says Raj, who heads up QBurst’s application development unit in Fairfax. “While each mobile app project is entirely unique, some best practices and ‘lessons learned’ easily apply to most any mobile app endeavor. As part of our Mobile Web Strategy 101 workshop, Mayra and I sought to share strategy considerations for business owners in the early stages of crafting mobile app strategies for their brands”

Much of the advice shared by Raj and Ruiz-McPherson during the workshop aimed to help business owners define their app dev strategy before working with any app development partner. Specifically, Raj and Ruiz-McPherson counseled business owners to ask themselves the following questions before building out any aspect of an app dev project:

Research
“How much audience development and competitive research have I done to differentiate my mobile app idea from the almost 2 million apps already out on the market?”
Ideation
“What technology partner can collaborate closely with me to refine my creative concepts and leverage my initial ideas to enhance my initial mobile app direction?”
Development
“I’m just an idea person, not a coder or developer. What development-focused details and important tech challenges have I not yet considered that I should factor in well before my mobile app is built?”

The pair also covered important mobile app dev budget considerations negatively impacting mobile application development project costs, such as:

  • Setting unrealistic expectations
This is a common scenario for most small businesses seeking to launch a mobile app for their brand. Quality mobile app development takes time, talent, and a breadth of diverse technical expertise.
  • Attempting to launch your mobile app with a long list of features
In line with the above, it’s important to note that the more features you plan to launch with, the more involved the development effort will be. If budget is an issue, and it usually is no matter how large or small the business, consider instead a phased approach where your initial mobile app launches with 3-5 key features and can later include additional enhancements in a future release or upgrade.
  • Skimping on your mobile app strategy
According to Statista (May 2015), one in four apps are never downloaded. To help your mobile app avoid such a fate, you must invest time, effort and resources into your audience development and competitive research. The goal is to differentiate and add as much value and relevance in line with your end users’ wants and needs and balancing all such factors within your app launch budget.

Raj and Ruiz-McPherson are available to present their “Mobile Web Strategy 101” presentation to organizations seeking professional development topics by way of “lunch and learns” or after-hours workshops for their staff or membership. For more information or to schedule a training session, please contact Praveen Raj in our Fairfax, Virginia office at 703.652.8473.

Tengi, an instant messaging app we developed for our client, is now live in the UK. Tengi is a chat app with a twist in that it lets you earn tickets and win weekly prizes as you chat.

Tengi approaches chatting with a whole new philosophy, trying to make it a free, fair, and fun experience. It offers all the convenience of a free messaging app and something more. With an aim to give back to the Tengi community, Tengi promises to share half of their revenue with app users through weekly cash prizes. The more you chat, the more tickets you get, and the greater your chances of winning the lucky draw.

“This was really an amazing project, perfectly driven. We put the best resources onto the project and it’s clearly reflected in quality of the resultant product,” says, Marcin Skoczylas, who led the QBurst development team. “The prize draw is complex. We developed a lottery algorithm that’s scalable to hundreds of millions of users and billions of tickets. Lot of effort was put in to test the algorithm statistically and to be sure that no fraud or predictable results were possible.”

The app was realized through the combined efforts of team members from Poland and India offices working alongside the core Tengi team. Tengi has been launched in the UK but is expected to expand to other countries too. The app is available for download on iOS and Android platforms.

The eLearning platform we built for our client, who is one of India’s largest publishers of educational content, serves as a one-stop solution for smart learning.

    5 (2)

Primarily targeting the student community, S. Chand has introduced a learning portal that allows users to purchase e-books, take assessments, and view interactive curriculum content from various educational boards.  The audio-visual content within the digital platform brings the subject matter to life, enabling students to learn in a fun-filled and interactive manner even when they are on the go.

The solution comprises an eCommerce bookstore, an Android and iOS application- myStudygear, and a web panel for backend management.

A slew of features beef up the eLearning solution.

    • Online bookstore for students to filter books based on category (subject, class), add to wishlist, and purchase.
    • QR code scanner for quick and easy access to digital content.
    • Trial copy to view contents of the book before purchase.
    • Summative assessment tool to monitor course progress.
    • Related product/discount recommendations to make informed purchase decisions.
    • Online discussion forums to collaborate with subject matter experts.

There’s actually more to it. According to the development team, no stone has been left unturned with respect to ensuring a smooth and safe experience for content users and content providers alike. In an effort to curb violation of intellectual property rights, the multimedia content is tightly encrypted and cannot be accessed from outside the reader application.

Thousands of students are flocking to online learning resources these days but this platform has a twist to it. You’ll find all the study materials in one place and the QR code scanner lets you locate related resources easily”, enthused Rajesh Rajappan, Project Manager. “The app makes it so easy for learners.”

myStudygear app is available for download on Android as well as iOS platforms.

QBurst Gives Cochin School a Makeover

It was a change the students and teachers of Nusrathul Islam Lower Primary School had long been wishing for: proper flooring for the school building and a computer lab for the students. QBurst’s CSR intervention finally made it happen.

The floor of the small, unassuming school building at Kakkanad, Cochin was in a state of disrepair when we stepped in. Paucity of funds had led the school to put off the maintenance. The computer lab, meanwhile, was practically dysfunctional with outdated computers. Finding replacements without straining the school’s meagre budget was impossible for the authorities, so the students’ exposure to computers remained limited.

We undertook tiling of 3000 square feet of the school building, spanning the classrooms, computer lab, office room, and the school corridor. The work, which was started in the first week of February 2016, was completed on February 26, 2016. The computer lab was also revived with QBurst’s contribution of three new computers, enabling the school to live up to the expectations of the state curriculum.

“QBurst has transformed our school. Now our students can pursue computer education as visualized by the IT@School project. The school has now become a source of pride to us,” says Mrs Mary, Headmistress of the school. As for the young students, we wish nothing more for them than the ability to dream big within the safe, enabling environment of the school and to go after their dreams when they mature into adults.
