QBurst hosted hacKnight v1.4, throwing open an opportunity for in-house coders to showcase programing prowess. The event started on the evening of June 27, 2014 and lasted until daybreak the next day.

A total of 63 participants divided into 16 teams brainstormed to demonstrate technical skills within limited time. Contestants were challenged to develop their concept and prototype around marketing, advertising, sports, or entertainment. They could choose to build apps, libraries or solutions as deemed fit for their concept. The evaluation criteria were prioritized as innovation of concept, usefulness in terms of business value, functionality and user interface of working prototype, as well as presentation skills.

First prize was shared between teams RSpec and Anonymous for projects Talent Live and TracQ respectively. Third place was awarded to team HackForce for their project SpectateApp. Team AK47 bagged special jury mention for their project Lost.

Talent Live cashes in on the idea of conducting reality show auditions online via Google Hangouts. Organizers of reality shows can hold video auditions and viewers can voice their support using votes or likes. This app can enhance talent participation as it extends the reach of auditions.

TracQ demonstrates the commercial application of QR code for time tracking within an organization. This could be a handy app to monitor usage time or how long a user is connected to a registered iOS device. Measuring usage time as a means to gauge productivity, detecting unauthorized use of WiFi or upgrading operating system based on usage comparison between devices are some of the potential uses of TracQ app.

QBurst clients in the United States were treated to a sumptuous Kerala-style luncheon at our Fairfax office. The feast was organized by our US team to mark the celebration of Onam, the famous harvest festival of Kerala.

Onam embodies an era of prosperity and abundance. Festivities that last for ten days usually culminate with a grand feast on the final day. This traditional feast or sadhya, as it is called, is the hallmark of the season’s festivities. It is served on a banana leaf and includes numerous savouries accompanying rice.

Every year, QBurst celebrates Onam with enthusiasm. One working day is set apart at each location to serve sadhya for employees. This day begins with the laying of elaborate floral carpets in the office foyer. Towards noon, everybody gathers together for some entertainment and games. After the traditional lunch, we are all back at our desks longing for the siesta that threatens to overpower the need to continue coding.

2014 was no different with celebrations happening at all locations. In the US this year, we invited our clients and contacts over to share this unique feast with us and experience the Onam flavor.

As India announced ‘Let’s Football’ with the Indian Super League, QBurstians declared ‘Let’s Futsal’. Our Trivandrum Women’s Football Team ushered in QBurst’s first ever trophy in an inter-company sports tournament.

The five-member team raised the championship trophy at the T-League Futsal Ladies Penalty Shootout Championship organized by Sportz4You group of Technopark.

QBurst’s first sports win was destined to happen through these femme fatales:

At QBurst, we believe in giving back to the society as we grow. QBurst has taken the first steps to initiate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in NUP School, West Koratty and Beemapally School in Thiruvananthapuram.

NUP is an upper primary government aided school established more than 100 years ago in Thathamath village in Thrissur. The school, with approximately 400 students, needs to renovate existing toilets and build two new toilets for girls.

The total estimate, which comes to around Rs2.5 lakh, will be utilized for constructing commercial-grade toilets and continued maintenance. The construction started on November 17, 2014 and is expected to be completed by mid December. The Kochi-Koratty CSR team will send a representative to pay monthly visits to the school and submit a report on the sanitary condition of the renovated toilets.

Building toilets in schools, especially for girls, is crucial in the light of the fact that 8.4% of schools in India lack functional toilets for girls.

As part of our second CSR initiative, a proposal to purchase classroom furniture for the Beemapalli school is under consideration.

QBurst cricket tournament brings together talented cricketers every year and this year was no exception. Master Blasters, under the captaincy of Arun Sekhar, emerged as the champions of QBurst Premier League, 2014.

QPL is the annual cricket tournament that invigorates sports enthusiasts in QBurst to prove their prowess in cricket. The various departments are divided into four teams managed by a Team Owner and a Team Manager each. The teams select players through an auction based on players’ points from previous tournaments.

The QPL 2014 finals was a close battle between teams Master Blasters and Warriors. Sabarinath Thulaseedharan won the Best Batsman award and scored maximum number of sixes, earning him the Man of the Series title. Babu S., who took 16 wickets, was chosen as the Best Bowler of the series.

We look forward to yet another year of thrilling sixes and fours from our QPL teams – Challengers, Warriors, Hawks, and Master Blasters.

At eCommerce 2015, QBurst team showcased the recent web and mobile applications that we had built. The main attraction was a device used to prepare 360-degree presentations, with most visitors wanting a live demo.
